Are you here in Love or Fear?
Beautiful YOU. What do you envision or wish to create as this New Year unfolds? And where do your visions emerge from? Lately I have found it extremely helpful to stop and consider whether my thoughts are coming from a place of Love or Fear. If every act or manifestation in our lives originates from the seeds of our thoughts and thus from the nature of our attitudes, then perhaps we can consider the bigger picture here by reflecting on what our thoughts are, from time to time, from moment to moment, and how they might be ‘contributing’ to that wider panorama of our lives.
If I arrive into a place of awareness and find myself contracted with fear or stress, I know now that I can open up and breathe. I can turn around in that instant and be courageous enough to expand so that love can be present in me again, even if that means losing my ‘thread’, my ‘story’ about something and throwing my old ways to the wind.
If I can catch myself in that fleeting glimpse of attention and find that I am in a fearful place, then the strength I gain from witnessing this can be enough to propel me out of it and back into my heart.
It sounds so simple written down in black and white, and life is never that simple, but having a strategy to interrupt the mind’s unconscious patterns of reaction and stress is a valuable tool, and the easier it is to use the better.
And Fear is not to be merely dismissed or dispelled as: “Shadow – keep out” because it is a teacher with valuable lessons to share, and often it will show us the way to our freedom from it, if we can receive that. Yet Fear and stress have a habit of taking over or consuming the mind if they are not checked and seen as a teaching, rather than as a reality.
Even in survival situations from crossing a road to climbing a mountain peak, fear can be seen as a teacher that can guide us rather than as a reality overwhelming us.
I have been known to scribble messages to myself on the back of my hand, such as ‘Love or Fear?’ to prompt my memory and assist my ability to reframe the origin of my thoughts. And I truly want to embrace a big-hearted view of life and not to be drawn into the ruts of mistrust over and again.
Because when we connect to that Love that has no agenda or need, that is vast beyond our human-scale but which we can and do feel in our hearts, then Fear is no longer a reality. It cannot occupy the same space as this Love. It is either one or the other. And just think of what we can create as human beings from this expansive place of Love? It feels limitless to me.
So which will you choose this year? From moment to moment and from time to time perhaps you could ask yourself when it comes to mind… “Where am I right now? Is this a place of love or fear?” And then make your choice.
Written in Love.
